Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Northeastern State of Somalia Hon. Ahmed Ali Yakhle serves as the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Northeastern State of Somalia. He was appointed on 19 October 2025 by H.E. President Abdiqadir Ahmed Aw Ali to lead the ministry responsible for local governance, federal affairs, and reconciliation initiatives across the state. Minister Ahmed Ali Yakhle is a highly experienced public servant and governance expert with many years of service in Somalia’s government institutions. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in strengthening governance systems, promoting reconciliation, and supporting the development of effective public administration. He previously served as a Member of the Federal Parliament of Somalia in 2012, where he contributed to legislative processes and national policy discussions during a critical period of state-building in Somalia. In the same Federal Government, he also held the position of State Minister at the Ministry of Interior and Federal Affairs and Reconciliation FGS where he worked on federal governance and institutional development. Hon. Ahmed Ali Yakhle is widely recognized as an experienced elder, mediator, and leader who has contributed significantly to peace building and community reconciliation, particularly in the regions of Sanaag, Sool, and Togdheer. His efforts have helped strengthen dialogue, stability, and cooperation among communities. Prior to his current appointment, he served as a Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Aviation and Air Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia, where he provided legal guidance and institutional advice on government policies and regulatory matters. With extensive experience in governance, law, reconciliation, and public administration, Minister Ahmed Ali Yakhle continues to lead efforts aimed at strengthening local government institutions, promoting national unity, and advancing peace and stability within the Northeastern State of Somalia.

Hon. Ali Ahmed Ali currently serves as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of Northeastern Somalia. He brings valuable experience in governance, legislation, and public service.

Prior to this role, he served as a Member of Parliament in the Transitional Administration of SSC-Khaatumo, where he played an active role in parliamentary oversight and institutional development. During his tenure in parliament, he served as the Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Planning, and Trade, contributing to the development and review of key legislative frameworks.

Hon. Ali Ahmed Ali contributed to drafting several important laws, including the Financial Law and its tariff regulations for the Ministry of Finance of Northeastern Somalia, as well as the Chamber of Commerce Law under the Ministry of Commerce of Northeastern Somalia. He also served as a member of the Constitutional Committee of the Government of Northeastern Somalia, where he participated in the development of the state’s constitutional and governance framework.

In addition to his public service, he has a strong academic background. His education includes a Diploma in Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializing in Project Planning and Management.

Through his leadership, legislative experience, and academic expertise, Deputy Minister Ali Ahmed Ali continues to contribute to governance, institutional development, and reconciliation efforts

Abdisalam Iman Ali

Abdisalam Iman Ali is the Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Northeastern State of Somalia. He was appointed by President Abdiqadir Ahmed Aw Ali on 22 November 2023, during the transitional administration of SSC-Khaatumo. Mr. Abdisalam is a governance and public administration professional with extensive experience working with both international and local organizations across different regions of Somalia. He previously served as a university lecturer in Las Anod, contributing to higher education and capacity building for young professionals. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Development Managment and Public Health Officer from Jigjiga University in Ethiopia. Over the past decade, he has focused on public service, governance, and community development initiatives. As Director General, he oversees the ministry’s administrative operations and supports programs that strengthen local governance, reconciliation, and institutional development.
